Small update:
Pieces are falling into place, plans are being put in motion.
I finished up all the welding and fab work adapting a Saturn Vue electric power steering column into the 68 Mustang. It will be nice to ditch all the factory pumps and rams and crap and not have to worry about interfacing all that stuff with the 2JZ.
Also, I have yanked the 2.3T ( kind of sad really)
Also, my Aristo front clip has arrived, complete with obscure Japanese tuner stickers:
Right now I am trying to get the 2J started in the front clip to verify it is good. I have a 30 day start up warranty. I threw a battery in it and everything works, including the power steering wheel and heater/blower stuff. Well, everything except the starter, which just clicks. Apparently that is common, and my rebuild kit should be here tomorrow.
I also have a fuel feed and return line run to it from the trunk on the Mustang. With those lines and the jumper cables from my truck it looks like some sort of mad scientist monster revival.
Wish me luck!

What are you doing with the 2.3?

I'd banter about whether or not you really need PS in a 2JZ Mustang, but that setup is nice enough that's all it would be, banter.

So it's like the Mustang from Tokyo Drift, but with a 2JZ instead of the RB?

It went to a good home. My friend who got me into 2.3T's bought it. He has a 2.3T in a LX convertable, one in a Bronco II, and one in a Bayliner. Dude is nuts.

Sorta, except this one is in my driveway :)

Is it actually going to be twin turbo? One funny thing I've noticed with a lot of Supras is that they've typically lost one between the shop and the track/show/drag strip.
Funny, because you'd think they'd notice hearing that kind of a bang...

The best difference. The paintjob comes close though.

I like this shot, just before I pulled the engine:

2JZ Mustang?

You're going to have to change that 2.3 now.

No, I'm going single as well. Not so much for performance reasons as for packaging. In the 68, I'm pretty sure the factory inlet would be pointing directly at the shock tower. Also, the factory twins have a ton of hoses and lines that are just unsightly.
Here is my inspiration, a 2JZ in a 68 Mustang that kept the factory shock towers, so I know it fits.

Oh I will. The 2.3 will become 68, just makes sense. But, I will be adding rocker stripes in Orange with black outlines. Instead of GT350 they will say 2JZ

Good idea for the rocker stripes, but why 68?

Why not 3.0 to continue with the displacement theme?

so fast so furious

I guess the 2.3 made the engine bay look pretty big compared to this.
Any power goals in mind, or just a little more oomph compared to the 2.3?

I guess I could. Something to think about.

2.3 was set back pretty far, but also wide for a 4 banger:
It put down 200hp/270tq to the rear wheel on the dyno. From the 2J my goal is somewhere in the 350-400rwhp neighborhood, nothing too crazy.

Damn dude, I love your Mustang. Also, props to you for not being afraid to try new things.

Thanks. I've had the car for 4 years or so, I pulled it out of the bushes. I figure, its just a 68 six-cylinder coupe, they made 200 something thousand that year, its never going to be worth much. Might as well have fun with it.

Is Oppo the best location to follow your 2JZ/Mustang build?
![]() 12/10/2014 at 09:58 |

Not really. I'm running two build threads, both with the same content. I only post big stuff on oppo.
This one has everything about the car from day 1, all the way through the 2.3 Turbo:

This one I made when I started the 2J swap:
